Quick Stereo Swap Question

yesterday I changed the Stereo to 1 I had fitted in my old car, today when I started it up, it didn't turn on with the engine or save any of the radio stations or settings. Dont recall having this when it was fitted to my old car.

Im not very technical with audio, but anyone else had this problem or have any idea what the problem could be?:wacko:

The stereo is a Alpine IDA-X100 if this helps at all.

Many thanks

Don't know for sure, but I'll bet the permanent and switched lives need swapping over (yellow & red wires iirc)

Loftylad probably hit the nail right on the head: you need to switch the wires for IGN and BATT.

Thanks guys, I thought that might have been the case, hate touching electrical stuff.

As its all in connector block, you think it will be a pain to do?

Think I'll take it out again over the weekend, take a look

Ah yes, but you can get a stereo facia which reduces the opening to a standard stereo size.

Really....thats interesting to know.

Probably not. Most modern AfterMarkets have a provision in their wiringloom specifically forthis problem.

The Red and Yellow wires ususally have a bullet-connector in them, which you can unplug

and swap over, so the wires become Yellow->Red and the other one Red->Yellow.

Here's an example from the Kenwood Carstereo FAQ:

After:

That look nice a straight forward, thanks mate,

Worried I'd have to try it myself not know what wire to cut etc.

There should be no cutting involved, just pulling apart.

Which CAN be a hassle, as these bullets tend to be VERY persistent :D

Been out there &took the stereo out, as you said the wires needed changing round, although there was a orange wire with bullet-connectors on, but left them along. Set the time & radio stations then turned the ignition off & on, all seems well, Ill find out properly tomorrow when I go to work.

Thanks again for the top info :yahoo:

Orange is from the lights. This dims the display when you turn on your lights,

so it doesn't blind you at night (might be disabled through the menu though).

And if youve got a carkit conect its Mute-wire (usually Yellow) to the Pink/Black

wire of your Alpine. (don't you just LOVE on-line downloadable manuals :D )
