Just going through various threads on this site...found some saying the 1.6 04/05/06 corollas also have an oil burning issue like the avensis vvti engines...is this true??? This could make me change my mind about buying my 1.6 Sr corolla tomorrow now! Please help asap. Thanks...Sammy

Yes this is true however it is not a fatal issue with the engine and it doesn't impair performance.

The problem is that the pistons rings are ever so slightly undersized so a little bit too much oil is let into the cylinder and gets burnt off. This just means that you have to pay a little extra for oil but it doesn't affect anything else.

Don't be so hasty to give up on the SR. ;)

Wasn't the oil burning issue on the 1.8 engines found in the Celica & Avensis??? blink.gif

Toyota extended (un-officially) the warranty on those engines....

Not sure it's the same issue on the 1.6....

Good decision!

I can't see it as a problem as you should constantly check your oil anyway. :D

Good luck with finding one.
