Accelerator Sticking

Hi

I have owned my toyota carina 1.8 "m" reg for a couple of months now, and there is a slight sticking on the accelerator, it seems to be from the pedal. When depressing the accelerator you feel resistance and then a sudden give and then its ok for a while, sems to be mainly if the car has stood, however, its also started to do it during use, any ideas and is it safe to use.

Thanks in anticipation

Doesn't sound normal, I had both 'L' and 'N' erg carina's and nothing like that. I'd be inclined to get it looked at pdq...
