Obd Or Obd2?

Hi, I'm new to this forum.

Can anyone tell me please what protocol my year 2000 Corolla 1.4 VVTi is?

I've tried scanning with a OBD2 scanner that supports OBD2, EODB, CAN BUS but doesn't seem to work. Display says 'linking error'.

Anyone help please

99% is OBD2. The obd1 is for older cars.

I have a 2004 corolla (but I think that we have the same engine on (4zzfe) and I use an OBD2 scanner without any problem.

OBD2 was only mandatory in europe from 2001 onwards, so if its earlier than that it might have OBD or OBD2! OBD generally resulted in awful implementation from manufacturers due to shoddy standardisation, and its mostly useless especially with a generic device.

You should be able to tell what protocol it uses by the the used pins in the OBD connector.

Haynes manual says that all of the VVTi Corollas were OBD2, as has been said, ready for the 2001 requirement, so your car should be EOBD/OBD2 compatible. Does the scanner work on other cars?
