Now That Toyota Dont Sell New Cars

I think you might have fallen for the "Top gear says so, it must be true" line

When they drove it, the car was driven like a racing car, and more along the lines of, lets see how bad we can make the Prius MPG. Ask any owner of a Prius if they regularly get 43 MPG out of it? No don't be silly, of course they dont, they fair much better than that.

As for the environmental issues, yes the Battery pack does use some of the earths precious resources, but so does every other car on the road, take a catalytic convertor for one thing, full of Platinum Palladium and Rhodium, or the gold and other metals used in ECU's. Prius or Hybrid cars don't hold the monopoly on that

But was the BMW able to produce ZERO emissions while city driving? :g::no:

You might rest your case, but your case is flawed.....severley, you Sir have been top geared, and have had the JC injection, never mind, you might get over it one day ;)

Mmmmmmmmmm.......Eggs and Bacon......I am getting hungry!

Now what were we saying about the VW Scirroco 2.o TSI?............That is not a very "Green" car ;) .............But of course I would not consider discussing that on a TOYOTA forum :o ........and would not expect a VW owner to do so either!

I would save that for the VW forums

I seem to be defending Hybrid all the time recently, not sure why

My point is that everybody who knocks Hybrid can only come up with the excuse that a diesel is better! Better at what? MPG possibly, but people who are blinkered about Hybrid don't want to open their eyes to a different technology. Low emissions (zero in the city) will be the way forward in the future, and mainstream manufacturers who do not have a Hybrid in their lineup will simply go under in the next 20 years. Hybrid is the ONLY alternative for mainstream production until something like Hydrogen comes along, and with a bit of luck, I won't care what I'm driving by then, it will probably be a mobility scooter

All the people who dismiss hybrid reminds me of this quote:

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."

- Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943

Fact is though it is sad that some people are so close minded that they fear a certain group of individuals because of their sexuality, in the same token they dismiss a technology which is a proven solution to a specific problem because of another close minded sets of opinions.

How these people get through life is a mystery.

Hey ho... Nature finds a way in the end.

dont be soft, im a roman catholic, i despise homosexuality. Im just saying that hybrids in small hatches are pointless because as clarkson has rightly said, a diesel will be much better. A hybrid in a big saloon or 4x4 i would totally go for so long as it was bolted onto a big engine

it was that not long ago that clarkson and crew were slagging off diesels.

these people dont live in the real world.as the exotic cars they drive on there show are lent to them, and they are never going to buy them.

clarkson mentiond he has escort in the family, and never had any problem with it,but its not a a car he would want to be shown driving on tv.it would spoil his percieved image.

mans a hyocrit,as are people who think what ever they drive is the only car to have.

its a pity some of those clergy men who dispise homosexuality, but practice it on their congrogation.i forget which religious persuasion was,but its very strong in ireland.

What again? I must admit I do find it amusing that some one thought they would easily get 35MPG out a Scirocco 4 months ago but still cant manage 25MPG but then again that's a story for a VW forum and maybe why some of us thing about buying Hybrid cars with ever increasing fuel costs http://www.fuelly.com/driver/boozehound/scirocco

Wow, good find....haha.

Of course in his universe this is perfectly acceptable because the car has 2000000bhp.

Well just for a moment to get back on topic I cannot believe you had such bad customer service.

The salesmans bible states always, always make a follow up phone call.

This guy was not just unprofessional he is just plain bad at his job.

His boss needs to know.

To wander into the territory off topic I find it unbelievable how religion can make people so bigoted.

We are here for a blink of an eye and discriminating against people because of their sexuality is pathetic.

I too was born or should I say indoctrinated into Roman Catholicism.

Took me years to de-program myself.

I suggest you read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

If you can face the fact there is no such thing as god.

In the mean time keep your homophobic bigoted s*** to yourself.

From a different post:

i just cant understand why i was only getting 16.1mpg in the auris but now i get 29mpg for the same driving with the a/c on full blast.

....and now we find your average is considerably less than 29 MPG?........err like 22 ish

Remind me not to buy a VW diesel Scirocco and remind me to put you on the straight and narrow when you say you don't get small Hybrids ;)

Well I booked our T180 in with Ron Brooks service manager (John) yesterday over email for the MOT in Oct and also included my notes from the 1st post, on the reply John put that he had forwarded the note to the sales manager but still no telephone call. You would have thought this would have happened just to say sorry and offer you a test drive and to talk figures.

Here is a copy of the email I sent

Hi John,

Just thought I would let you know that 99% of the time we have experienced 1st class service at Rob Brooks Mansfield and could not ask for more or better service, with our warranty running out at the end of October and the poor MPG the T180 is returning when I was instore around 5 weeks ago finding out about MOT costs etc I asked a salesman (Arran) about the Auris Hybrid.

Now if the figures and price is right I am very certain we will go for a new car so I explained this to the Arran but he said he was very busy for the next 2 hours as the regional manager was coming over but that he would sort some figures out and get back to me later that day or the next day, now that was fine but 5 weeks later we have heard nothing.

why did we not hear anything? Well we came up with these simple answers

1. don't sell new cars now.

2. business is booming so don't need the money

3. think we are wasting your time but I will point out we nearly bought a T180 of the same salesman in Jan 09 but he was a little over priced and would not budge in the end I travelled 20 miles to Inchcape Toyota and got the same car but 3 door with the sat nav, 1 month newer but 9k more on the clock for £2k less.

Why did I not chase Arran up? Simple If as a company you wanted to sell cars you would make sure that any interest was followed up and in our experience when we have to chase things or receive numpty service we have always been disappointed with the outcome.

so it now appears Toyota don't sell new cars any more so on Sunday we dropped into Honda and test drove a CRZ, well the best word to sum it up is very impressed and shocked.

The Good Points

MPG was a lot better than our T180 diesel (short run from cold with mixed driving returned 41MPG compared to weekly average of 33MPG in the Auris) and so was the low down acceleration, we found the car more than capable up to 70mph but will say that in 6th gear at 50mph overtaking would not be great with out dropping down a few gears. We found the handling and ride to be very good and sharp along with the brakes and was shocked at how good and responsive the car was even in normal mode (especially when you know it is only a little 1.5 engine)

The Bad Points

Unless you are 4ft tall the back seat is no use or ornament, and this maybe a small niggle but coming from a car with key-less entry and ignition I would have preferred the same as we never take the key fob out of our pocket.

Would We Buy A CRZ

Well the simple truth is we would in the GT spec but unfortunately Honda don't seem to do any good offers or deals on these so the answer is No, if Honda had some good offers or 0% finance etc then we would be talking figures now and not typing this.......

The salesman (Brent) did say that he feels around February there will be good offers on these and if so will give us a call as to be honest we feel this could be our next car.

Now after informing you of our poor service recently received I would like to book our T180 for an MOT upto 2weeks before this is due but not less than 1 week in case repairs are needed. (FG57 *** Think MOT is due around 26th OCT) and will require a curtsey car if one is available unless it can be a Saturday morning, I would also like a quote for a 40k service but will not require

1. brake fluid change as this was only done 15k / 1 year ago

2. brakes will not need any inspection as only had new pads all round about 8k ago / 10 months and I am sure they are fine + will check myself if we still have the car before the winter as I will treat the insides of the alloys to some protection.

3. no need for any spray grease any where on the car as I will do this myself when required.

4. will not need pollen filter as this has just been changed.

5. car can be washed but please don't apply any chemicals apart from car wax shampoo.

Could you please let me know the date the Auris is booked in for the MOT and the cost along with the cost of the 40k service without the bits above and this maybe done the same day depending on mileage but at the moment we are on approx 37800.

Thanks again Rick

im with jeremy clarkson on small hybrids, they are pointless.

Expensive & thirsty....

hi digiman

the hybrid and simular powered cars are what we wil all be drving in the future.

diesels will be gone off our roads,as more st stringent emission laws come in.

so it does not pay to slag them off,cos you will have egg on your face when you find yourself owning one.

Has this theory yet been confirmed to be the truth?

I find it hard to see how anything will take over from Hydrogen powered cars... ;)
