Hello i have a 55 Avensis 2.0 d4d t spirit and when i engage reverse gear i get a squealing noise at the bite point that sounds like a dodgy fan belt ??? am i correct in thinking this or is it something else ???. Whatever it is would it be an easy fix ??. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

As it does not happen when in forward gears I am thinking it is not a belt, does the car not have electric fans anyway huh.gif

It wouldn't be a belt if it is only in one direction (as stated by Steve).

Maybe it could be something to do with the Thrust Bearing, although again that would be a continuous sound... eerm maybe there is something wrong with the reverse gear itself.

It won't be a cheap fix if it is the bearing or the gear.
