Yaris Verso 2000 Design Flaw - Locked Out Due To Security Feature

I double locked my Yaris Verso as usual but then had to leave him for 6 weeks.

On return I am unable to unlock the vehicle with either remote key - the Battery appears to have gone flat. However, with the immobiliser activated, I can't unlock the car with the physical key either.

Apart from breaking a window to spring the bonnet catch, is there any other option?

Have you tried the AA/RAC/Green flag or whichever one you are in?

A car locksmith will get you in...

It's not a design flaw .. it's designed not to open when the immobiliser is working..

If you leave a car for 6 weeks, any Battery weakness will ned up in it going flat as there will always be current drains..

When was the Battery last changed? If never, you are relying on a 10 year old Battery to hold charge for 6 weeks... A new one might struggle..

Thanks. I'll get onto some other locksmiths. The ones that I have tried so far won't touch it.

The six weeks' gap wasn't intentional and it is the original Battery so I understand why it has gone flat.

In some newer cars their is often a service key with the remote so that you can get in in a similar situation. I don't know whether Toyota have looked at this.

what about the boot lock - would be surprised if that was a deadlock.

Have you tried opening that with the key and climbing over?

I'm also surprised that deadlocks don't work with the key - they used to on other non-Toyota cars I've had with deadlocks - but if you can't get the door to open, then I suppose they mustn't.

Have just tried my boot with the deadlocks set and that opened with the key on my 2008 car....

Plan B - if the boot doesn't open with the key, then the starter motor is on the back of the engine with a big fat wire running straight up to the Battery + terminal and it looks like you could possibly get to that wire from underneath with a Battery charger.

You'd have to jack up the front of the car securely and put it on axle stands to be safe...

You'd want to put the red "+" wire onto the fat Battery wire and then connect the battery chartger "-" black wire to some metal engine part.

The solenoid on the top of the starter motor will have one big fat "live" battery connection wire and a smaller wire that goes to the ignition key to trigger the starter motor. Its the big fat connection you want as that's the live battery feed. It will have a nut holding the wire onto the solenoid of approx 10mm across.

Then you could switch on the battery charger and that should give you power to open the doors with the remote....

Have tried specialist car locksmiths and they won't touch it because I have the key and they would only be trying to do what the physical key would do anyway.

There is only one key hole in the 2000 model - the driver's door, otherwise would have tried that, but thanks for the suggestion.

Had a couple of Yaris Versos in the past but didn't have that problem to face. Mind you, the wife and I did get locked out of my Carina one Sunday many moons ago and we called the AA who came and managed to get in for me without damaging anything. It might be worth calling the breakdown organisations to see if they might be able to help and, if so, joining for a year. That's got to be cheaper than smashing a window and having it replaced :thumbsup:

There is only one key hole in the 2000 model - the driver's door, otherwise would have tried that, but thanks for the suggestion.

Is there not a key hole in the boot lock? Mine has one and it's a yr 2000 like yours. :unsure:

Thanks. At present I've got a friendly local garage trying to work out what to do. However, that will be my next port of call. :rolleyes:
