Air Conditioning Leak - Yaris 06 Onwards.

Hello,

A Toyota engineer has stated that my Yaris 1.3 Zinc has an Air-Conditioning leak, but cannot tell me where it is without me paying a further £88 for more checks, which seems a bit strange as he must have seen the leak to tell me there is one!!!

Has anyone else got a 1.3 Yaris Zinc (06-Onwards) that has had an Air-Conditioning leak? if so, where was the leak?

Asking Toyota to sort out airconditioning is a waste of time.

If your aircon has a leak - I assume the aircon is not working or not working well - normal test is to add a dye to the fluid and run system to see where leak is.

Can be anything from a leaking connection to a hole in a pipe or the condensor (favourite)..

Then it's drain the system, replace bit , refill etc.

You may be better going to a specialist aircon engineer who deals with these alone...

It is possible your dealer do not have their own but bring in a specialist to do it... (hence the fee)...

I got a mobile aircon specialist out to a leak in my Alfa.

He put an ultraviolet dye in to identify where the leak was (mine was a simple cracked pipe).

I then changed the pipe (no issues with escaping gas as it had all leaked out already anyway) and then he came back, pressure tested and refilled the system.

Cost me £50 all in for his work plus the cost of the pipe.

Also the gas can leak out with lack of use as the rubber seals can become dry.

It is recommended you turn the A/C on to lubricate the system every now and again.

Have had cars with very little refridgerant in but no leaks found after refilling and adding oil to the system.

The main cause of leaks are the condenser which sits directly behind the front bumper. You may see a damp or what looks like an oil patch on the condenser, this is a sign of damage and the unit will need replacing.

Whenever you get your car regassed always make sure that you get UV dye put into the system to enable easier location of any possible leaks.

When washing a car with aircon, I always hose out the radiator and aircon.. from the front. It removes any dirt build up - and salt in winter.. Makes the radiators last much longer...

(I had an A4 where the condensor split..£££s:-(
