Paint Peeling Away

As you can see in the picture. The paint is peeling away on the plastic impact points.

Now I have the choice of:

1. Repainting the plastic

2. Taking all the paint off on both sides and having them grey

I am happy to have them grey (I think it'll look good)

Any ideas on how to do either?

I'm not sure where I would get the Ice Blue paint.

Or the most efficient way of taking the paint off without scratching the plastic underneath.

Is it under warranty still?? If so a trip to see Mr T seems in order....

If not then the choice is yours, I suppose you could try a respray yourself or take it to a paint shop.

If you really want to take the paint off I'm sorry, no idea!

No warranty.

How much would a paint shop charge for such a small area?

It's not that difficult to match up an 'off the self' colour. My last car (honda accord) hit a piece of wood that had fallen off a lorry, & took off a strip of paint similar in size to what you've got there. Went to Halfords & asked if i could take a few cans out to do a colour match with the car, matched one up & resprayed the area & you'd never have known.

You have the advantage that you have clearly defined areas that you can mask i.e. you don't have to 'blend' the new paintwork into the old. With those grooves surrounding the areas to be sprayed, i doubt you would notice if the colour you used was ever so slightly lighter or darker. Just be sure you mask all other areas carefully. And if it is noticable simply take the can back & match it against the next lightest or darker shade.

No warranty, pity.

Paintshop shouldn't be too expensive, you can always ask for a quote, you don't have to have it done!

And as doomjeffs says, there is always Halfords!

Good luck

The "chips away" or smart repair type companies can do these small repairs for you, try a few local agents and get a few prices

Using ordinary spray paints is not entirely satisfactory as you really need a plasticised paint, otherwise it will crack and flake off, just like what has happened :lol:

Kingo

I thought that Toyotas came with a 12 year paint warranty???

Standard manufacturers warranty (miles): 60000 miles

Standard manufacturers warranty (years): 3 years

Standard corrosion guarantee: 12 years

Standard paintwork guarantee: 3 years

The only warranty I'm covered by is the corrosion guarantee.

I assume that's rust.

I'm getting a quote from Chipsaway. See how much it could be.

Thanks for all the help so far. I'll keep you posted.

Incase the quote ends up being too expensive.

What would be the best way of removing the paint and having them both just grey plastic?

No. The car was a cat D and when the bumper was replaced the garage obtained a rather rare version of the Aygo's front end with fog lamp holes.

This is was all done with the previous owner.

This may be the reason the paint is peeling. (Bad touch up job)

Well the quote ended up being a lot higher than I expected. So that's a no go.

It's gonna be a DIY job it seems.

Now:

1. Buy the spray paint linked up the page and respray myself.

I'll need tips on how to make sure it stays this time.

2. Take the paint off and have it grey.

I'll need tips on the best way. Since working it away with my finger nail isn't viable. (I've tried)

Thanks in advance.
