"check Engine" Light On With Error Code P0420

If you have the "Check Engine" light permanently on and your mechanic detects error code P0420, in some older models they may ask you for a very costly repair of both the car computer (ECU) and the catalytic converter.

Do not pay! This is a well-documented production defect by Toyota, a "bug" in the ECU software, and the company should fix it for free.
