Uneven Tyre Wear

I've already posted this topic in the Yaris section, but still have a problem and am hoping that someone else can help.

I have a 2008 Yaris TR with 10,000 miles on the clock.

All four tyres are wearing unevenly. One side of each tyre is wearing 1mm more than the rest of the tyre. The outside edge i.e. towards the middle of the road and towards the kerb side are all 1mm less than the rest of the tread.

The tracking has been checked by laser at both ATS and National Tyres. Both times I have been told that all is within tolerences.

The tyre depths are front 5>4mm and rear 6>5mm.

I have owned the car since new and do not drive harshly around corners.

Any ideas as to the cause of the problem would be appreciated.

How much did you pay for the tracking each time?

Decent professional laser tracking costs around £120.

I could be cheeky and ask whether you are carrying a heavy weight (well it happens to me - I'm 130+kg !!

I'd guess at the tracking and camber still out.

The tyres are wearing on the outside, if a heavy load was carried would'nt the tyres wear on the inside?

Because neither of the 2 tyre specialists could find a fault they did not charge me.

Just to clarify. Is it all 4 tyres wearing on one side only or all 4 tyres wearing on the inner and outer edges?

If it's the former then you would need a 4 wheel alignment check at a decent tyre specialist. There is also the possibility of faultyyres but for all of them to wear strangely is rare.

If it's the 2nd "option" then a cause could be as simple as under inflated tyres.

Hope this helps a bit

Only one side of each tyre is wearing down. The pressures are checked weekly and kept at 33psi.
