Changing To Led's

Hi,

I have been looking for sometime now as to how to replace the bulbs in my car with LED ones and for the life of me I cannot work out the best way to do it, so I'm asking you guys.

I've looked online for headlight/tail light clusters with LED's in already but I cannot find any, do they even exist?

I've also looked at replacing the stock bulbs with LED ones, but after buying some bulbs it seems as though they do not work! :(

Has anyone on here converted to LED's? If so how did you do it?!

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

sorry to be a n00b but what does polarised mean?

When I put in the LED bulbs for the stop/tail light they didn't even light up! :(

But when I put them in the indicator socket they did albeit they flashed rapidly and the clicker on the dash went into overdrive.

So am I doing something wrong? :S

thanks for the help so far!

Polarity sensitive means they work like a diode and so only work when electricity flows through in a particular direction. If you have one that doesn't light up simply rotate it round and try again. You should find it lights up then.

for your indicator lights, you need to have high resistance leds. Otherwise the relay thinks one of your bulbs is blown and flashes at a great speed to let you know.

As cyclopse said, LEDs have a direction, so if you didn't get them to light, just rotate them 180 degrees in the socket and see if that works.

Does anybody know where I can get "high resistance" led's from? or are they called something else?

  • 2 weeks later...

just look for LED's that say 'no canbus error' they've been made with a resistor in series to simulate the same load as a lamp

I'm out in Atlanta at the moment with the missus, but as soon as I get back I'll fit them and post some pics.

I'll try and get some night time ones :)
