Cold Air Feed Pipe

right, i was thinking of ordering an apexi power intake (from nengun) for the compressor, but i don't want to go through with it unless i know i can fix a cold air feed pipe running from the lower front grill all by myself. i've seen many member's pictures on here of their cold air feed pipes, but what i want to know is :- is there a lot of work involved in removing the stock snorkel? do i have to remove the front bumper or can i work at it from underneath? any pictures or descriptions of the actual placement process would be very much appreciated. also, on a bit of a side note - would the apexi intake cause me any sort of problems with the maf sensor or any air/fuel ratio problems? if i'm honest, i know the stock air box is restrictive, and i'd dearly love to change it, but if it's gonna be a huge job (including the cold air feed fitting) then i might just go for the old 'blitz lm panel filter' lol. any advice or thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, so thanks in advance...

Whereabouts you from bud??

The A'PEXi shouldn't cause you any problems with your MAF Sensor as it's a dry filter and houses the MAF Sensor in roughly the same position as stock.

No need to remove your front bumper, the only thing you may have to do is remove part of your undertray for access, not a massive job tho

thanks for your reply!

i'm in belfast, mate - a place where it is near impossible to find other t-sports on the road, so i'm afraid this forum is my only source of advice (which is no bad thing!).

happy days, just as long as i can get access without any major headaches then it all sounds good to me...

the apexi is my first choice - i've heard of others having major problems with k&n typhoons and other induction kits, but i haven't read a single complaint from anyone who owns an apexi on here. i just wish that they had a uk based supplier!

another thing mate - does it add a lot of noise? i'm not sure if it would make the supercharger whine like the typhoon does, but i wouldn't want the sound being mega mega loud - i want the engine to breath well, but not so much that it gives me a headache...

cheers in advance...again. lol

Belfast?? Hmm... well you pay my travel expenses and i'll give you a hand!

It's not too loud under normal driving, obviously when you boot it there's, as my kids call it, "a ferocious roar!"biggrin.gif

Don't recall ever seeing the A'PEXi on a Comp.... so no idea about the supercharger whine!

Getting the stock hose out is a one minute job

Just remove the stock airbox, which you will need to do to install the apexi, then before you fit it you should have a big open space like this

I've already removed mine, but it slots into your airbox under the fuse box and runs along side the Battery then down into the front wing

just pull the whole thing out and you get this

26466_10150154619775431_874815430_11787607_2873717_n.jpg

Cut off the elbo that connects to the airbox and connect it to your cold air feed

and fit it to one end of your CAF

now run the CAF down to your front grill via the space behind your headlight, now I took off my front lower grill (facelift only) and went up into the engine bay instead of down.

I also used the opposite end of the Stock snorkel to fit to my CAF to ensure it was pointing to the front of the car as my piping was not long enough to put a bend in it

looking like this

This was only something I did one afternoon while I was bored, Im not claiming its a work of art or the best way of installing a cold Air Feed but it might help a few people out
