Filling Up

I know that in theory it doesn't happen very often, but it's a question about filling the petrol tank on a Gen2. I'm sure I read somewhere that when putting petrol in you have to be careful not to overfill because of the bladder or something. Any truth in this? Ta

Oh! Do you have to put petrol in a Prius then

We didn't get the fuel bladder but we do have the charcoal filter system that can be damaged if the tank is overfilled.

I only fill to the first automatic shut-off of the pump. It's a good idea to know roughly how many litres you needto fill the tank, so that you are not caught out by an overly sensitive petrol pump. The petrol tank has a capacity of 45 litres, not that you should ever try to empty the tank.

The Gen 2 has a design flaw (corrected on the Gen 3) that if you run out of petrol, and then continue on HV Battery power alone, it can drain the HV Battery down below the minimum ~40% SOC. Once, the Battery is below the minimum SOC, the car won't be able to start again, if you are lucky the car can be transported to a Toyota dealer, the dealer may have to contact Toyota GB for the special HV charger (I get the impression that this isn't a routine piece of kit that the dealers would have - anyone know?), and in the worst case the HV battery may have to be replaced.

I can't remember the detail, but there was something about not pumping in too small a quantity at a fill-up as the relevant ECU can't cope with small changes and therefore the petrol gauge won't display the change.

Bladder tank was only supplied on US gen 2 Prius to comply with strict Californian 'vapour leakage' legislation.

I think the gen 3 tank is 40 or 45 litres but I fill my car when it gets to 1 or 2 bars (I never go to the flashing single bar) on the fuel gauge and I end up putting about 32-33 litres in. It would appear that the fuel gauge isn't quite correct and allows quite an amount in reserve - I suppose this is better than the opposite!

Hey!! Come on AURIS Compatriots - Bit miffed here - Do we have bladder tanks?

IMHO I consider that so far Toyota have cherry picked the Hybrid Technology from the various Prius Gen-1-2-3-dated products and produced the ultimate UK Hybrid = AURIS.

Already on this forum we [Auris Owners] are being vilified - marginalised and subjected to divisive and insulting invective.

If that's not a good enough reason for our own sub-forum please explain.

Guys, please. This is a hybrid forum. The Auris already has a forum, yet the hybrid Auris is also able to share this hybrid forum, but you want another one purely for Auris HSD?

How many forums do you need for the Auris HSD? Where will this all stop? I don't believe you've been marginalised or subjected to divisive and insulting invective, but if you're convinced you have been, perhaps you should have want you obviously so badly want. :crybaby:

I fear though, that it might be a rather lonely place!

Terry,

My dear sir, we are all members of a very exclusive forum; that of 'proper' hybrid technology (as opposed to those H...a things we get an insight to occasionally. That the said technology happens to now be used on at least two of Mr T's vehicles in the UK (not counting Lexus') we really ought to consider ourselves fortunate that we have somewhere to compare, consider, converse and, yes, whine and whinge if necessary.

Rumour has it that we will be joined in due course by the Yaris crew, should we give them their own hybrid forum or should we welcome them with open arms as we have done to the Auris people? I have no doubt it will be the latter as we Prius pioneers are a happy friendly bunch.

So can we please have less of the rebellion and let the Auris HSD and Prius HSD people join together in mutual support

:yahoo:

There should also be a little triangle symbol near/on the fuel gauge to remind you on which side the filler cap/flap is located on the car.

I think he is, I hope he is, yeah, he's gotta be, hasn't he???

Thanks Timberwolf, I did read somewhere in the manual that the Prius occasionally needs something called 'gogo juice' and that Mr T had provided a hole somewhere on the side of the car that was used for this process. Your comment has pointed me in the right direction for which I most humbly grateful

Maybe we should have a "Terry953" forum where he can post to his hearts content

OK Guys & Girls - I put my hands up to wiser council from the majority regarding my campaign for an AURIS HSD Forum, I admit to being a bit of a wind up merchant at times, but it does get things going sometimes. LET'S ALL STAY one united hybrid community.

Oh! By the way about indications of where your fuel filler is = Most vehicles have and arrow sign adjacent to the fuel gauge, [next to the graphic of a petrol pump] that points to which side the filler is.

LOL TerryB

Sir. May I formerly welcome you to the Hybrid forum. May our association be fruitful and long lasting

- I'm glad that Mr T puts that little arrow on, filling up doesn't happen very often with HSD's and we are very likely to forget where the hole is!!

No specialist Auris Hybrid forum is needed. It's all the same technology and, as such, needs just the one place where we can all gather and swap experiences and tips. As a new hybrid owner I have picked up loads of tips from the contributors of this forum, e.g. Grumpy Cabbie. So I see no reason for a separate forum. If I need Auris specific info (like tonight with my door mirror  ), then I'll go to that forum. In a couple of years time when we have multiple hybrid platforms being sold by Toyota....what would be the point of separate hybrid forums.

Let's just keep our high MPG smugness in one place

Cheers

Dave
