I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla and have the MIL on. The code is P0171 (Lean fuel). Somebody had suggested to check for vaccuum leak. Can someone tell me how I check for leak in this model.

Thanks

My guess would be a fuel filter in dire need of changing, but if you want to check for engine vaccum leaks:

Start the engine,

Spray some WD40 around the vaccum hoses, inlet manifold etc and listen for a slight increase in engine rpm.

If you have a leak, the WD40 will be sucked into the inlet tract and will burn as it mixes with air/fuel mixture -correcting the weak mixture caused by the vaccum leak - and increasing the rpm slightly.

Dont spray it over the Distributor or Alternator while the engine is running,as this causes a mysterious loss of eye-brows and facial hair.

:P :P :P
