l have a Corolla 1.4D-4D and thinking about getting the HSD next, I realise I really need to book a test drive but for the short time I will be in the car maybe won't give me a complete idea what it drives like so I wondered if anyone else has moved from a Corolla 1.4 to the HSD and what their impressions were, what I don't like is how gutless my Corolla can be when going up a steep hill or overtaking on the motorway, I normally change to manual mode for this, I was hoping the HSD isn't the same?

We've had ours for about three months now, and, whilst we didn't change from a Corolla 1.4 D-4D, we did change from an Avensis 2.0 D-4D and if anything, the HSD pulls slightly better than the Avensis.

The thing to do is to pick a route for your test drive that satisfies your curiosity - tell the salesman (ahead of time) of your concerns and that you want to test various aspects of the HSD's performance and drivability, and, if he's worth his salt, he should help with a route that has steep hills and bits of motorway or dual carriageway that will let you see what happens when you put your foot down.

I don't think you'll be disappointed, but please keep us abreast of your thoughts and what what you discover.

All the best, D.
