Speedo Working Intermittently

Hello, I've got a d4d estate Y reg - 2001. It has been faultless until recently the speedo just stops working for a while (sometimes 5 minutes, up to maximum so far of 3 days) then starts again without me doing anything. The car has done a fair few miles (182,000) and I can't find where the speedo is fed from so I don't know if it is a problem on the sending unit or the dashboard.

There are 2 causes for concern -

First is that I spend a lot of time on the M25 going through the variable speed limit cameras, so a working speedo could save me a fortune and my license!.

Secondly will my ecu work properly when my speedo is not working. The car seems to perform OK but it is hard to tell as I'm usually just cruising around at 65 on the motorways or stuck in traffic through the towns.

Thanks for any help

Graham

this is your speed sensor on your gearbox.

remove and inspect.

inspect wiring loom connection.

see if you have green oxide on connectors
