Verso Sr Diesel 2.2 Engine Noise

Our Verso has done 33k miles 2007 model. This summer touring Scotland the engine started to sound different-more like an old rattly diesel.

The performance was just as good.We took it to a Toyota dealer who tested it and found nothing wrong.

On returning home it was just the same-quieter till warmed up, then more of the rattle noise when increasing the throttle-and uphill.

We took it to our local Toyota dealer who again did a full test and took out a new Verso diesel for a road test comparison.Still nothing found! But recognised a differnet noise.

Just concerned that there may be something loose or wearing-though the performance is still good.

Any diesel owners experienced this or can give us any advice please?

What grade of oil have you topped it up with & are you seeing excessive oil consumption? Use nothing other than 5W30.

There are known issues with oil consumption on the Diesels & Toyota will get involved if its using more than it should.

Have you noticed any increase in fuel consumption? Has the EGR valve been checked/cleaned out?

Oh and don't use supermarket diesel. Use good quality fuel, preferably Shell or BP.

Many thanks for your reply-I am no engineer or car expert. I have not needed to top up with oil.We do use Supermarket fuel

but have recently started using BP as I heard about Supermarket fuel not being so good. What is the EGR Valve?I wonder why the

Toyota garage didn't suggest it-shall I get that done?is it a big job?

Your advice is most welcome.

I phoned our Toyota service (after they had the car in for a full check) they said the injectors were examined and found to be ok -also that

EGR valve was ok -told them what you said -and they will get back to me-I may drive one of their Avensis Diesels and see if I notice the engine noise as being different.

Thanks for your help

hello mate

i am inclined to conside your injectors work as not stable. some of them inject more diesel than should be as per engine load. the reason of that is their nozzles fast wear down. each injector nozzle consists of a needle and casing. the needle contacts casing (inside)in a circle ring and after using of supermarket fuel with bad quality -- this contact circle ring becomes wider resulting to needle contact pressure reducing --- and this leads to sealing violation and finaly to have more diesel quantity in each working cycle. the more diesel injected the more rattling is heard. Cheers/Igor

Just put in £40 or £50 pounds in once a month or so. the 1st time u put it in try to drive it hard reving it up a bit b4 changing gear, try and take it on a little motorway run for about 10 miles or so, That shud blow alot of **** out of ur injectors.

Thanks for your advice.I found a diesel engine specialist in Milton Keynes. He recommended a new German product for cleaning the injectors and EGR valve-just added to the fuel.So I am trying this and using Shell -added £40 worth -so will see how it goes and give it a blast this week!

Watch this space!!

Cheers, David

PS THey said if it doesn't work they will check/clean the injectors and EGR.
