Alloy Wheel Refurbishment In South East Essex

The wheels on my 2005 XT4 are suffering with the affliction which seems to affect so many RAVs (bubbling finish) and so I plan to have then refurbished.

Has any one had any experiences (good or bad) of either Alloy Art in Southend-on-Sea or JP Polishing on Canvey Island. I've Googled both of them and as usual have found both good and bad reviews for both.

The views of a fellow RAVer would be appreciated.

Also check if "Wicked Wheels" has a franchisee near you. Mobile workshop comes to you, and made a great job of wife's Merc alloys a few years back.

Big Kev

Thanks everyone for your advice however, I don't want to use a mobile service as I'd much rather have the wheels dipped and baked and also want new tyres put on at the same time.

Have carried out a bit more research and have found one of the outfits I mentioned has a flashy website and modern looking unit on an industrial estate but employs a load of kids whereas the other has a ramshackle workshop on another industrial estate but works on his own and has been in the business for years. Think I'll plump for the latter (his quote was also £100 cheaper, presumably as he doesn't have to pay all the overheads the other firm does).

No use to you location wise, but I've had 2 sets of alloys done at a back street looking place in Macclesfield up in the North West near me, cracking job, if you take him the wheels stripped (no tyres or valves etc) he charges £30 a wheel (+ vat if you want a receipt) for shot blasting and powder coating if its a colour he has in stock, its extra if its a colour he does'nt stock. The beauty of powder coating, is its an electrostatic attraction, so its uniformly the same thicness within a few microns. Be aware through, any kerbing scrapes or deep corrosion under a blister will still show up as the coating doesn't fill blemishes, if you've any nicks or scrapes on the rims, I'd be tempted to gently file the high spots off or blemd them in with some emery to minimise them first.
