No Interior Lights

Now that its dark early, I have just noticed my interior lights do not work.

The front map reading light is OK but the other two roof lights that can be linked to the door are completely dead.(no power at all)

In the past these lights are activated by the remote fob and fade so I guess they are controlled via some electronics some where.

Checked the fuses and the one marked Dome lights in the box under the bonnet was OK.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Car is a 4.2 2004 XT4 petrol

Here you go Ian, have a trace through the attached.

You always seem sufficiently clued up to me, so I'm not going to work it out for you :D. (saves me the effort )

EDIT: At first glance, probably a PWM (pulse width modulator) @ DOME pin, passenger side J/B.

Thanks shcm you are a star

Looks like I may have a connector problem, if you have a few mins can you check my logic.

Key clues

My Ignition key Cylinder light is still illuminating when I open the door and dimming when I lock them.

My interior personal (map) light still works

+V feed for the key light is the same as all interior lights that are not working.

Dimming to earth circuit for interior lights is the same as the Key light

Therefore, the ECU is providing power for the lights, they should manually switch on and they should also dim?

Therefore, I think I have a problem with connector 3A, however, (I hate howevers) the personal light (map) also goes through it.

Any idea where 3A is situated ?

Alternatively I think I have a wire break

Nah. Possibly a brown dwarf.

Well, can't really fault the logic at the moment. Have a look behind the glove box perhaps.

They are switched on at the lamp? There are 3 positions.

Boy do I feel stupid !!!

In the daylight located connector a3 behind glovebox, buzzed it out "all fine"

So powers going to the roof. I thought I would double check the roof sockets, last time I visually checked the bulbs and used a meter on it.

Removed the bulbs, they look ok but they are both blown.

Sockets now have 12V :ffs:

I suspect I had my meter set wrong last night :censor:

Thanks for your help, off to buy some bulbs.

Should have applied Occam's razor to the problem :)

I knew that you must have been on something to describe schm as a star. Ah mean, if he was a star then there would be a tremendous light shining and you wouldn't need lights

Or did you mean that he was supremely helpful and saved you time to search for the wiring diagram?

You should have just disconnected the Battery then you would have known why things weren't working.......

oh - I'm hearing bells.....time for my tablets...... :shutit:

Clearly Ian I jinxed your diagnostic procedure by mentioning the fact that you were "clued up".

Still, better the bulbs (which I thought you would have checked, so didn't mention) than a popped ECU drive.

Worry not, I think it happens to the best of people

if he was a star then there would be a tremendous light.....

I've collapsed into a black hole.
