Coolant Usage

Hi all

this is a carry on from one of my other posts about my engine, well i mentioned my drive belt came off, car overheated as my coolant was p***ing out from the overflow valve by the looks of things.

well when i got my car back from the mech i noticed he didnt put any coolant in, so i put it in myself via the reservoir tank, ran my car for a while, took it for a little drive and noticed the level had dropped below the min mark, so i topped it up again. the following day i noticed it again had dropped below the min mark!!!! so again i've topped it up today, again it had dropped slightly so i topped it up.

am i doing something wrong here as i never use to lose coolant like this at all. theres no signs of any leaks and when my car overheated i was doing about 60mph at the time and stopped asap. i drove for less than a minute. i've checked my oil and doesnt look like its got coolant in. (common check for head gasket, i think) although im not really mechanically minded at all.

any help again would be appreciated.

i've a 2001 vvti celica, btw.

cheers in advance.

The oil and water don't always mix following head gasket failure, it depends on where the gasket has failed. Sometimes you can just have a lot of white smoke instead.

If the coolant level keeps dropping then there is obviously a problem, but if it levels itself out eventually, then it could just be air in the system being bled out causing the level to drop.

I'd just keep an eye on it for a few days.
