just checked my oil this morning and it is showing just below the low mark, i have purchased some new oil and car will be off the road now untill the garage can performn me an oil change hopefully monday/tuesday as soon as they can get hold of an oil filter.

would it be possible for me to top my oil up 0w40 Mobil 1 with the same oil and be ok to drive ? or is that not a good idea ?

if you desperately need the car then yes just top it up but if you dont and can wait till the oil change then, you would be just wasting your money..

whack some cheapo 0w40 in to keep the levels up until you do your oil change then obviously just fill the normal Mobil stuff you'd use. as it is only a top up using a different brand but same grade wont cause a problem. at least never has done for me.

any oil would do nearly for just a day or 2, just dont drive hard, but if you dont need the car then i wouldnt waste my money, but having said that i wouldnt even drive it to the garage and it below the min......even though theres still about 3.5 liters in it

the car aint moving apart from going to a local toyota specialist less than half a mile away for full oil change.

ive already baught the Mobil 1 0w40 from Halfords £48 :0 what a sting in the tail haha

so just need an oil filter, last time i got the trd sports filter but im not sure it makes any difference so i may just stick to the toyota filter, any opinions ?

cant belieive it, my car never used any oil in the first 2 years then i switched to this Mobil 1 0w40 roughly 1 year ago and it has now gone low. my first year i loved the car and hit lift almost every time i drove her. past year i aint hardly touched lift so i dont understand.

i do check at least once a month and have been noticing it getting lower, so keep a check on yours ppl :)

Toyota filters are the best ones to use, they hold the largest capacity of oil out of the k&n etc. The trd is just a name branding and not worth the price at all.

There was a oil filter test done by a member on new celica they open the filters out and rolled the filtering material out, The k&n was shocking!

Stick to oem filters from mr t

definitely echo what Farhan said, mr t's filters are very good compared to other jap stuff like mintex/adl and makes like mann etc etc

I would recommend you get your engine flushed.

while on the subject may i ask why it is sometimes controversial to get a high mileage engine flushed? is it cos you might dislodge some gunk inside the engine while not removing it properly leaving it to float around?

Its basically any gunk within the engine could be helping to keep some worn seals, well sealed. Flushing the engine will dislodge this gunk and potentially cause leaks.

my personal opinion is the 2zz-ge needs to be flushed every time. the vvtli bits are oil controlled and have known to block up. The toyota manual says to flush every time.

Having said all that, if it hasn't been flushed and you start to flush then you need to weigh up what oil has been through it.

so if it aint been flushed then it may not be a good idea to start flushing ? i left my oil change to the garage, would they have flushed it ? i didnt ask as i didnt know it should be flushed everytime

Why are you using this grade of oil at this price? "Mobil 1 0w40 from Halfords £48"

Stick with 5W/30 fully synth, had mine "mobile 3000 super F.E" for £29.00. I know you just wanted the free umbrella  Not so free when the oil is that price though :lol:

Free advice. Rather than flushing this is what i'd do in your case. since you are low on oil anyway Drain the rest & fill it with a cheap 0w40 oil & drive around for atleast 1 full tank. This nicely cleans the engine as you'll see the colour change after few hundred miles. Then do the proper oil/filter replacement at the garage. I do the same to my TS except i do all the oils myself & use 5w30.
