Auris Poor Petrol Range - 2.0 Diesel

Hi,

I have a 57 plate Auris 2.0 diesel 3 door and have noticed recently that the petrol range reader on the dash 'appears' to be very inconsistent and wondered if anybody else had this annoying problem? For example, one minute the range will say 130 miles and then after driving maybe 7 miles down the road it will suddenly drop 20 - 25 miles??! Toyota have said this normal and that the range reader should sort itself out eventually, but I find that hard to believe as I 'would of thought' that as long as you are driving at a syteady speed and the air con etc isnt on then you should get what the mile states i.e the range should drop every approximate mile rather than every quarter of a mile!

Does anybody else have this issue/concern please??

Mine never drops that quickly.... It'll go from say 130 and I can do about 5-6 miles and it'll say about 118... depends on a lot of things i've noticed, up hills, aircon etc

The handbook states that this is normal because it works out a prediction of your range from your driving style at that time.

If you drive up hill on the way to work, your range will drop faster because it assumes all your driving will be done like this, but on the way home on a downhill it should even out or drop slower.

All my past cars have been very far out on the prediction for the first half a tank, but the second half has been alot closer to the actual miles achieved, and in reality, its the last quarter of the tank that matters as you won't run out of fuel anytime before the red light comes on.
