Toyota plans to launch 11 hybrid vehicles by the end of 2012, including both all-new and re-designed models and the company has also confirmed that Prius Plug-in Hybrid, currently undergoing a demo programme in London, will go on sale in Europe from early 2012.

can you just imagine the fun that the yobs would have, running along the road cutting all the power leads!! - always assuming that local councils will install hundreds of them

They will also have to mark the bays next to the charging poles or the leads might not reach. In the big cities this might not be an issue if they just bolt the plugs onto existing parking meters, the councils would love that, sting you for the parking and the electricity.

I don't know, imagine said yob cutting a 60 amp 400v cable with a pair of pliers! A hair raising experience for him!

A bigger problem might be yobs going along a row of them and just unplugging them. The connection presumably doesn't actually lock on, so imagine returning to your plug in car expecting it to be fully charged and finding it was still flat because someone had simply pulled the lead out. :ffs:

IIRC, they do lock in place, probably released by the insertion of a credit card for payment I would think.

They've already been installed all over Newcastle.
