Replacing Driveshaft Gaiter

My nearside (outer) drive shaft/CV gaiter has split and needs to be replaced. Anyone have experience of doing this? According to the book, looks like a long old job. Is it really necessary to remove the whole driveshaft to change the CV gaiter?

Found this: http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/?i=262289 - kit to replace the gaiter without removing the drive shaft. Anyone ever tried one? Looks like a much easier fix if it works.

Hi - I did this repair on a corolla recently using the kit and it was hard on a nice warm day. I wouldn't want to attempt it in the open or an unheated garage in this weather. You may want to consider paying a garage to do this job if you need the car urgently.

dont run car to long with split gaiter not only get muck in but the grease will get thrown out and mess up the the cv.
