i have posted a few times moaning :crybaby: about why i still have the three engine lights on ..

i have had the codes read. and it says that the air fuel mix is to high and too much air is getting in. to solve the problem i have covered part of the air filter with duct tape to see if it would help and yes :yahoo: it turn out i just need to buy a smaller filter

has anybody else found this ?????

This is very strange because if the engine sucks in more air, the ECU usually adjusts to the new data and increases the fuel injection ratio as well... Up to a certain limit of course.

And this is why you get more power from installing a CAI or SRI etc. (apart from the fact the the air temperature is lower).

If you cover the air-filter with duct tape, or if you get a smaller air filter, what would be the point? It is probably better to buy just an air filter which fits the airbox and just replace the OEM one (i.e. from K&N).

Unless, you do all that so as to enjoy the ravishing sound of the air cone filter... :yahoo:

I dont get it, why would you do this, surely you would just stick with the standard air box if the aftermarket cone filter is giving you problems

i think it's probably to do with the diameter of the MAF housing, rather than the size of the filter. the diameter is probably too large, therefore giving bad readings. however, covering the filter will restrict the amount of air back down to acceptable levels, but then it makes it totally pointless to have the kit in the first place, as would reduce performance, back to around standard.

The proper K&N/Apexi etc. kits have MAF housings at the correct diameter, to stop this happening.

Was it a k&n filter you installed?

it was a typhoon kit , the reader told me 'the mass of the airflow was to high' so to experiment i covered the serface area and ran it , it idled correctly and hasnt brough up the warning lights

im lost, i know whats happend doesnt make any sense , could the maf be lying to me ???
