hi mate

it might be cos of over fueling or bad quality of petrol.

Might just be the fittings.

Since the cold weather, my Yaris has developed two really annoying rattles;

One at idle (8-900rpm) which seems to be coming from the bonnet (I suspect I need to re-apply the electrical tape I stuck on the bonnet catch to fix this last time)

and another even more annoying one that happens at 1100rpm which it turns out is the rpm I tend to be in the most when driving through town!

It is coming from somewhere under the passenger-side speaker so I will probably have to find a volunteer to look under there/under the glove box...

Can you pinpoint where the rattle is coming from? Is it an rattle from the engine, the drive train or are you talking about a trim rattle?

Does it happen when the engine is hot or cold or both?

if you look at the engine over the driver side wing, the pulleys are configured like this on a 1.0vvti, assuming no air con:

Imagine you are looking at a clock

Position 12 o'clock is the water pump pulley

Position 9 o'clock is the alternator pulley

Position 5 o'clock is the crankshaft pulley

Hope the attached rough diagram makes sense! :thumbsup:

If it's the water pump bearing, best to get the water pump replaced as it will leak and eventually fail altogether. You also shouldn't put WD40 near the belt as it will cause slipping
