mtec discs and ferodo pads imo is the best combination to have in my opinion. mintex will squeal if the guy who installes them doesn't use copper grease on the backs of the pads. if he does then should be problem free for you

I've seen mixed reviews of the pads but am also considering the full mtec set? Is it worth the extra long term to buy Toyota do people think? Do you need to tell insurance?

ferodo pads with mtec grooved drilled or grooved dimpled is probably the best braking combo you can buy in a reasonable price which is comparable to buying an 'ordinary' set of mintex from the local independant motor factors. obviously if you want to spend £200 on nitrac discs then that's upto you. but original toyota brakes you might as well drain your brake fluid to half and use them they !Removed!!

Well I've ordered a set of mtec discs from eBay with pads included see what happens.

Anyone know how long they take to turn up usually?

Thanks

Ok I really don't want them to start squealing so other than bedding them in gently and copper grease is there any thing else I can do to stop them squealing?

change them for ferodo pads. i know i keep harking on about ferodo but the pads are really good and come with a rubber type sticker thing on the back of the pads which stops them squealing you can use copper grease for added measure. the mintex pads are just normal metal back hence why they squeal i think.

I will try to put more copper grease on to see if they stop, if not i will have to change them :ffs:

Maybe i will give it a try with Ferodo

ferodo 'premier' pads (the ones i have) are designed as oem replacement far as i know and they cost me £44 for the front pair. i know that's not cheap but i was stupid i did the shopping around after i had already ordered them and paid for them lol. i could have got them cheaper than that!

update on my Mintex pads

I checked the squealing on my front pads and the problem was different than i thought

One of the rubber seals on the callipers pistons ( i don't know the technical name :D )was damaged and the piston was blocked :ffs:

So the problem was not with my Mintex pads :)

Hi this sounds a good idea - anyone any ideas where you could get them fitted in north London or thereabouts?

It's a 30 min job m8 , you can do it your self

Is eBay the best place to get the mtec disks/mintec pads combo in terms of price? Any ideas what how much it would cost for just the front disks and pads?

Is it possible to do it yourself without too much technical knowledge? What kind of specialist tools would you need?
