Otherwise you will need a respray.

My trunk lid was resprayed beacause off this.

The foto was taken by a guy in Germany, who checked is IQ after my post in the German Forum. He was just in time.

Looks to me that the door/hatch would only be affected by rust staining, which should be able to be wiped off, caused by the cheap metal bracket thing in the handle mechanism rusting.

The metal bit that is rusting needs to be replaced but surely the door would be OK, or I am being too optimistic!?

I checked mine and there was evidence of rust staining on the door directly under the "handle" but it did wipe off very easily.

In any event, MrT has another job to do at the second service coming up next month.

Would a little squirt of Waxoyl here help maybe? Or does that metal bit need painting?

Looks to me like an inferior quality retaining screw that has rusted causing the problem, still needs addressing though
