Aygo Issues

Recommended Posts

evening all .

my wee aygo has landed me with two issues in the last month which . dealer wise one is expensive and the other is the usual aygo issue of the clutch, but the main issue is the power steering ecu

the power steering ECU has a fault with no power going to it, had it in at toyota and they are quoting the best part of £600 to renew the whole thing , had it at a garage that does ecu repairs and they said was a micro fracture on either the circuit or the soldering at the power cable in the ECU, they told me it was at most temp fix and could last for ages or be back in a week, it lasted 4 weeks and the PS lights on so now its heavy ish steering for the wife,

to be honest i will be looking to trade this in in about 6 months time for a 5 door...while it is our 2nd car, getting the kids in and out the back is a pain in the preverbial, i am machanically mided to a degree and im hopeful of doing the work myself if possible,so was wondering if someone could tell me the following,

Is there any places that specialise in ECU repairs that you would recommend or a company which would sell me either a guaranteed 2nd hand one / part exchange unit and has anyone any ideas of a price, i was thinking of using part finders and others etc as they also give a guarantee of a working part, but if someone knoew of a company that would be great as i wouldnt have to get 45 text messages a day

is the ecu easy enough to come out of the car ? and is it a case of....dash off....unplug it and take out....sit it bsck in, plug in and refit dash

does the ecu control anything else, as i wondered if it was a case of sending it away either for repair or exchange would i be able to still drive the car if need be

also as well does anyone have a rough idea of cost / time of fitting a clutch, its the one thing i've never felt comfortable doing even though i 've rebuolt engines etc

i have a mate in dingbro who can get me a 190mm clutch for it for just above cost price so was trying to see how much overtime im going to have to do this month

thanks for looking

Second hand ECU's come up on eBay - look for someone breaking a complete car maybe.

They are plug and play - I have changed several on other cars but never on an Aygo. Usually the ECU for power steering is located under the bonnet, not behind the dash; but Toyota might be awkward.

ECU will be different between petrol and diesel.

You don't say the year of your car, but when the 09 facelift came in I belive there were some mapping changes so I would not be sure that the earlier unit will work with a later car and vice versa.

Other than these differences, Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota all use the same (Toyota) ECU.
