Blowing From Turbo Pipe

Hi everyone,

I have a 2.2 D-4D diesel and theres oil coming from a bottom hose which I presume is a turbo hose to the intercooler. The hose was loose so I took it off for investigation. It has some form of push clip which is supposed to keep the pipe on the intercooler but there's no seal of any kind which I think is a bit strange. Any way here's a pic if it helps.

Thanks in anticipation

Dave

Hi Dave,

I have attached a .pdf file which covers the turbo and intercooler, it is for the 2.0d4d but it should be the same, it gives specific instructions on attaching the hoses so this should help.

By the way your photo was not shown.

Edit:- I saw your photo and your one does look different . Pete.

Best regards, Pete.

Thanks for the speedy reply, I have amended my post so hopefully the pic might be there. I will have a look at your pdf file, see if I can sort it out.

Thanks again

hi Dave

When removed this hose -- be sure you have no an issue with an oil seal ring belong to turbo - it look like the oil seal is about to die.

Just check with an air delivery volute whether its internal surface is covered by an extensive oil.

Thanks igor,

When I removed the pipe it was already loose and I did not find any debris from any other oil seals although, there was that much gunk I may have missed it!.

What do you mean by "an air delivery volute"? or is this a specialist piece of equipment?

Thanks again

Dave

in your pic the retaining clip is pulled out...was it like this when fitted to the car or did you pull it out?

when fitted, the clip should be pushed in to keep it in place.

Mart.

Hi Dave

have a look at the volute part of the turbine (compressor side)where the rubber hose connects volute pipe piece and try to insert finger in order to determine an oil residues on the wall -- if you ll feel it like an extensive -- this is a first sign of seal ring wearing down. Cheers/Igor

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have had a day and a half!!!

The clip was pushed in , I pulled it out to remove from the intercooler.

I went to my local dealers and they confirmed that there isn't a seal in there. I feel this is going to require a new pipe. I have refitted mine and it blowing slightly, I can feel/hear it as I move the pipe whilst the engine is running. I only requires a slight movement but it still loose...bugger

Thanks igor,

I have looked but it looks like the clip is at fault. The internal side of the pipe is not too contaminated. See my previous post

Thanks, Dave

ok Dave

that is good then - just have it degreased by solvent and re-assemble.

Cheers/Igor
