Earth Switched Headlamp Iva Fog Lamp Issue

Hello,

Can you help please?

I have a Japanese Import and as part of the UK regulations, I have to have the car pass an IVA Test.

The new 2011 IVA test stipulates that I have to fit a Rear Fog Lamp.

I have done this, originally via a relay so that when the cars side/day lights are on, the rear fog can be switched on.

However, the IVA now states that the rear fog must not come on with side lights and must only work with Dipped and High Beam.

I took the car to a specialist who re-wired in a relay via the earth switched headlamps. But the car has failed the test as the rear fog goes off if you switch to high beam.

I have spoken to the electrical specialist and he tells me there is nothing he can do.

My car is off the road as it will not pass the IVA test.

Can anyone offer any help/solution please?

TM

Aye - the earth switching I find is a nuisance. Had problems fitting spotlights on the front of my RAV but ended up fitting multiple relays. I guess you need to do the same by linking the fog lamp to the main beam using another relay and perhaps a diode to prevent leakage through to the dipped beam?
