1.6 16v 2002 automatic Corolla. Awful rattle as you can hear. I've checked all the obvious and oil seems to be getting to the rocker cover as is was splashing about when I took filler cap off when running.

I've posted this on a Fiat forum I'm on and someone has said this;

My mates 1.6 16v vvti recently died with a "tractor like rattle" on a Motorway near us. Had a full service in January, 55k miles on an 03 plate I think... partial seize... oil pump is the suspect...

Anyone got any ideas? Is this a common problem?

The car was last serviced 3 months ago by myself and oil is at correct level.

Sounds like it running on 3 cylinders to me.

If it was the oil pump I would expect the low pressure light to be on.

So by removing the cap when running, oil splashes out?

It's defo not a misfire. Oil appears to be getting to rocker cover, oil light goes off when running and oil is at the correct level.

Yes, does it both when driven and when sitting stationary and revved. So how do I go about resolving this issue then? Is there an easyish fix?

Many thanks.

Jon.
