Lowering Springs

Guys...

I noticed that there has been quite a few posts recently in regards to lowering springs...and has kinda begun to rub off on me now lol...i have NEVER lowered any of my cars in the past...but think it would suit my Rolla but I no NOTHING about them...sooooooooooo...ARE they easy to fit myself? Do they make the ride more bumpy? I've seen some genuine TTE ones on eBay at a reasonable price...but if i cant fit them myself...how much am i looking at to have them fitted? Look forward to some replies and thank you.

i'd pay around £25 per corner for springs fitted. lower e12 corolla 30mm won't affect anything much, i.e. handling will stay pretty similar and so will the ride quality but obviously you'll be sitting 30mm lower.

when you get to 40mm/45mm drops then you will see improvement in handling but obviously the ride will get hard, especially if it's a 40/45mm drop with a set of 17" wheels which most likely will have a 45 or 40 profile because the sidewall of the tyre and the tyre in general does absorb some bumps.

i doubt if you'd be able to fit them yourself you'd need some sort of equipment to take the tension on the spring while you remove it from the suspension arm and obviously the same gadget to tension the new spring while you fit it to the suspension arm. i've seen those springs go off like missiles due to the strain they are under...probably not something i'd want to attempt myself lol.

How can you say it won't affect anything? I've lowered mine and I did notice a difference in the way it handles. less body roll round corners and you can exit with more speed. Tested offically by me on the country roads behind house!!

Looks better too!!

ride quality is had to say if it changed, always swapping between my car and my birds pug 106. The corolla is pretty decent anyway.

Hey,

Have changed dampers on a couple of cars, its not such a difficult diy job, mainly a lot of muscle work.

It does need decent tools and a set of THREE spring compressors, don't rely on a set of two, they can slip off too easily.

Machine Mart do a set of 3, they say keep the threads well oiled when using.

Not a job to do on the roadside either - if you can get a quote for fitting your parts for £25 a corner it would be worth it.

On a 5 year old car would take the chance to change the dampers when replacing the springs, they are bound to be worn to some degree.

Its only when you get the old dampers off and compare them to the new ones do you realise how worn they are - the bounce test is a very crude way and only really identifies a totally shot damper.

I bought a set of tte ones for my car just waiting to fit them.

Really want to do it this weekend got all my tools ready just waiting on my mate to see if I can use his lock up!

Springs fitted! Now having a BBQ and a few beers to celebrate! Handling improved and looks better too!

Even better got them changed in an hour and half as had exclusive use of a ramp at my mates garage and 3 of us working on it!

Hey thanks for all your advice guys...gave it some consideration and i've decided "nah" against this mod sadly...mainly because i dont think i could deal with a bumpier ride...i enjoy a more peaceful environment...+ my other half recons for all that it would cost me wont justify a 3cm drop lol! I maybe buying coilover in the summer

what sort of money do you all think I could get for standard shocks with TTE springs? 30k milage on the shocks 5k on the springs

Its always risky selling stock parts when you upgrade but wouldn't mind knowing how much I can get for them?
