I Love my Corolla to bits, I think its the most complete family hatchback out there!

But I am getting really bad fuel economy lately and my car is a 1.4 petrol.

I get a maximum of 350 miles out of a full tank :crybaby:

Thats 3/4 City and 1/4 A road driving! and its like 31 mpg

Anyone else experiencing similar problems??

The "official" average is 42mpg so you are a bit below par

Have you checked your tyre pressures?

When was the last time it was serviced?

How about using a K&N air filter and putting something like Forte fuel system in the tank? Or some BG44? Are you using a full syn engine oil and gearbox oil? When was the fuel filter last changed? Maybe try a different brand of fuel(Not supermarked, unless its the 99Ron super) like Shell V-Power?

Every little helps! :eat:

I'm getting 37 out of my 1.6 vvti, so I'd expect you to get more than that from a 1.4 unless you're caning it everywhere.

I got 380 out of a full tank when i bought my recent 1.4l and that was mostly motorway driving.

Could it be a heavy foot? or yh maybe it could do with a service?

could be a combination of service (oil, filters and plugs) and driving style

also could be tyres, im getting 33mpg out of my tsport at the moment with uniroyals on, but with nokian winter tyres i got 35mpg and eagle f1's i got 29-30mpg

as said maybe due a service,

maybe overfueling, am i way off here but doesnt the MAF sensor give trouble which would drink fuel ?

Im getting 29 out my CTS at the moment, most I've got is 35, I'm running a K&N filter, tyre pressures are fine and it's serviced on time, I think it may be my driving style haha

28mpg in the t sport at the moment.

Like the boys said - give it abit of a service check

If that fails then source a hot air feed. The opposite to a cold air feed.

Lower oxygen content. Smaller bang. Lower power. Lower petrol. More mpg.... Dunno if it works like :(

If its lagging in power your more likely to lead foot it so you'll use more

I have noticed the poor motorway fuel consumption at speeds over 70mph. This is because the engine is fairly small for a car of this size, and there is no sixth gear so the revs are quite high.

The 1.6 does better at motorway speeds however the 1.4 at around 50 - 60 mph will give you 50+ mpg in some cases

I work mine out every time I fill up, I generally got to the same pump at my local Sainsburys so its quite accurate.

Miles done divided by gallons of fuel added/used,

been getting 38mpg on the TSport without gunning it much, a few rouge overtakes and a bit of lift every now and again. I find looking ahead, high gears, never breaking and maintaining slow and steady acceleration helps.

How have you worked that figure out??

Only ask as the highest mpg i've had was 41mpg on a long motorway journey....

There's no way round town i'd get near that figure
