Gen 7 Brake Knocking Sound

Hi

I am getting a sharp single knock/bang sound then I apply the brakes.

Think its the back brakes, Looked around and I think a couple of the anti rattle springs are missing, so you can wiggle the pads slightly.

Im wondering if the pads are moving slightly ( because they are not held by the spring) and so causing the sharp knock.

Its the kind of sound you would expect if you tapped the disk with a hammer

Anyone else had this ??

Thanks

Yep, it'll be the pads knocking. I'd go to Toyota and get full brake pad kit which will include everything you need.

I wouldn't recommend a Toyota brake kit .. it'll cost you a fortune! I bought the brake pad metal backing plates separately from them & personally I would buy aftermarket discs and pads if you need them .. My fronts made a hell of a noise despite not looking too bad, a really weird knocking sound. The pads were spot on, the discs not too bad, I greased everything up but no better. When I eventually bought new discs and pads (cheap eBay aftermarket ones), the noise vanished.

Do you know how much it'll cost or are you just guessing?

A full (Back and Front) set of brake pads WITH fitting kit costs me just £60 from my local Toyota main dealer..... Doesnt sound like much to me.

Of course this is for a GT4.... but i wouldnt expect a car with less power and smaller brakes to cost any more than what i pay for big GT4 pads.

Also from my experience Toyota own pads have been superb.

Hi, A couple of years ago, I was quoted by Toyota £700 for new disks and pads all round. I declined their kind offer !!

Parts alone? Or with fitting?

No way would 4 disks and a full set of pads cost that much from Toyota unless they tried to get you to have them fit it all too.

If it was just a quote for parts alone then let me know which dealership it was so that i can pass on the word to avoid them like the plague!

Im quite lucky that my local main dealer are a great bunch of guys and they always give me 10-15% off for being a Toyota Owners Club Member.
