Right so a bit of a story first..

I joined up here last week to gain a fraction of knowledge before I got my CTS. Having sold my Subaru in April I have been looking for something hot hatch size since and it was untill a couple of weeks ago that I decided on a CTS.

So after finding the one I wanted I paid a deposit, sorted out flights to London, insurance and extra cover for a 2nd driver, petrol money and train tickets for London I was on my way.

Flew from Aberdeen (0925) to London Luton (1045), train to central London then tube to St.Pancras (I think) then overland train to Chelmsford arriving at 1pm ish. Met the lovely owner Tina, test drove it back to her house, signed the papers and left!

So it was 2pm when we left and started our mammoth road trip back north. Stopped at a couple of places along the way for food and drink but TBH I cant really remember where (apart from Carlisle for Burger King mmm)

Arrived back in ABZ at ten past midnight and duly went straight to bed.

Got up this morning and started washing her after the 580 mile journey on the road she was !Removed! filthy.

Hasn't used any oil but needs the radiator fluid topped up a bit.

Only otwo niggles, which i will post a picture of below. Can I get a replacement bit or should I just take it off, i'm not too worried that the little pocket bit wont have a front face on it.

How do you get the trip meter to p*** off as well, when we got in the car it said radio 'whatever', we pressed the trip/navi button wondering what it would do and now we cant gte it off the screen!

Enough mumbling, pictures speak a thousand words... (btw the front bumper hasn't seen paint, its just iPhone camera.)

just press the trip/navi button to cycle through the trip/navi options. then press fm/am button to see the radio display etc. or disc to switch to disc and display the menu. :-)

lovely looking car mate!

ive taken my bit off, just got annoyed with it sitting open all the time, looks reasonably easy to fix once you get the centre console off though.....

Red cts are nice and damn that travelling sounded huge but the drive home must have been epic!?!?

The flap can't just be replaced. If you wanted a new flap then you'd have to order the whole centre console which is pricey for what it is. Or as above try and fix. Those are your only options.

Enjoy though

Thanks everyone, looks like I will just be taking the cover off then as i'm not too worried about it.

Cheers Clawliger, i'l have a shot at doing that tonight. Never tried pressing the am/fm buttons...

Bridges, the travel was a fair hence but with 2 drivers we did it in just over 10 hours with petrol and food stops included. Got to do it all again in a couple of months for JAE anyway!

congratulations on your new purchase. i wish you all the best with your new motor. it needs lowering (but doesn't every toyota ever to roll out the factory lol) so i wouldn't worry about that too much. :D oh but on a serious point they look soooooooooooooo much better with light tints all round (if you're not phased by the po po too much) or just light ones on the rear 3 if you wanna stay 100% legit...

Haha cheers for the kind words!

That is one of the first things i said when I got in the car too! How good it would look with sone light tints so that's another thing to add to the list!

  • 2 weeks later...

Fitted a beesting aerial last night, so now the aerial is only 10cm long as oppossed to 100cm!

Painted the calipers red last weekend too and while the wheels were off, washed them, tar remover and wheel wax. Also noticed I will need to put a small layer of underseal on the front arches.

New brake disks and pads will need to be ordered before the winter i reckon too, discs have a massive lip on them and pads have only a few thousand mailes left on them!

Got a new air filter today as well so I will fit that tonight, emptied the pollen filter last night. (where can I buy a new one of them btw?)

Cleaned and polished the exhaust as I dont think it had ever been done so it looks MUCH better now.

I've had a busy couple of weeks since I bought the car and its been great so far.

Next mods are my own CD player to install and tidy up the engine bay a bit.

This Sunday I have a track day at Ingliston as well so i'm looking forward to that, shall report back with how I get on!

Jason

you can get a pollen filter at any independant motor factors. should cost around a tenner rather than the £18+ the stealers want...

Side lights as in the wee indicators on the front wing? I was just going to use some Tint Spray and get chrome bulbs or a bit of tint film even. Cheers for the advice on the tints though, definitely something im looking into soon so il have a look on your thread.

Yea il try find the link for the aerial off my eBay page.

Got an alpine unit of some description that I took out of the Subaru, its got an ipod connection thats the main reason I want it in the car. Never listen to CD's and the radio gets annoying after a while I reckon.

Cheers for the nice words, will have some more pics after this weekends trackday

So like I said above I had a trackday hosted by my old car club Aberdeen Scoobies at the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, Edinburgh.

14 cars in total incl 1 support vehicle, and 1 subaru which blew the Power steering pipe and resulted in the end of his day after only 2 runs sadly! :censor: A single seater F3 type of thing had the fastest lap with 1.05 then only 3 seconds between the next 8 cars, 4 Subarus, 1 Accord type R Turbo, dc2 and an Audi A3. Another scoob, a celica gt4 and then myself had 3 seconds between us and an escort rs bringing up the back.

I was !Removed! impressed by the CTS though, the track was perfect for it with its 8200rpm I only used 3rd on one of the straights otherwise it was 2nd through the whole course. Very little understeer which I was surprised about as it only has ditchfinders on it but that !Removed! TRC beeping got annoying after a couple of laps!

Only a couple of pics as everyone was having way too much fun on the track to take pics so here they are.

Sounds like you had a good time

I would love to do a track day but I think I would get too carried away resulting in twisted metal and tears

Just be sensible, I did 2 laps at a time - 1 to warm the brakes and then a hard lap. Fairly scrubbed the front tyres though, might have to keep a look out for a spare set o alloys, 2 for track tyres and the other 2 with winter tyres on them.

I can see why they did a supercharged model too, takes ages to get into lift!!

Washed the car today and changed the pollen filter, something tells me it hadn't been done in a very long time...!

Also is there a separate tank or the rear windscreen washer fluid or does it draw it from the same one as the front windscreen washer.

Same reservoir for both mate.

My pollen filter looked a bit like that too when I changed it......what a difference a nice fresh one makes eh?
