Prius Tailgate

Is it common knowledge that the Prius tailgate is aluminium, not steel?

I only discovered this when, preparing for a trip to Holland and Belgium later this week, I wasted the princely sum of 75p on a magnetic GB plate that won't stick to it.

I assume this is to keep the weight down. Is aluminium used elsewhere? The bonnet? The doors? I might have to do some experimenting with the otherwise redundant GB plate...

IIRC the Bonnet is aluminium and the hatch is aluminium & plastic (above the number plate I think ?).

Do you need GB stickers now, I though all cars came with Euro or GB number plates ?

My number plates have GB on them.

I discovered the aluminium when I tried to use the hatch as a ground plane...

You could always stick the GB plate on with double sided tape then use a bit of dental floss to remove it when you no longer want it there.

Best watch out for that "Gotcha!" when you go to attach the Nurburgring sticker...

i just had to go out and check, I got a magnetic GB plate, never used it, anyway, as you say, the tailgate and bonnet are aluminium. we live and learn.

Do you think we might get galvanic corrosion on the hinges?

I know Landrovers could suffer that with the birmalloy.
