Camry High Idle At Startup

1997 Camry has fast idle at startup (1900 rpm). Takes too long before computer slows the idle. I have to wait a few minutes before driving car, I dont like to shift into gear at that idle speed. Any help? TIA

Its perfectly normal for a car to start from cold at this idle. Our camry did it, my Avensis does, nearly every car with fuel injection/computer controlled will - its to enable the engine to get upto full operating temperature as quickly as possible - there is no harm in starting to drive it at these revs. It's just a bit like an older car when the choke is on.

My 97 is the same way, but with the eletronic trany on it, it still shifts into gear smoothly.
