Time To Moan

I just need to vent some anger today.

After many recomendations, trial and error and all round failure.

The time has come for me to replace this f'ing manifold of mine!

So basically i have ordered a new manifold/heat shield/gaskets/bolts and all the other crap you need which has cost far too much!

I was then told by two garages inc Mr T that they will not put it on to my car due to the aftermarket exhaust, so out of curiosity i asked how much for the full standard :crybaby: TTE exhaust system...

Guesses on a post card... £2800!!!!!!!!

Yes i could buy a new flippin car for that!

So i am waiting on my manifold to come and i have booked my car into 3 different "specialists" to see who can fit it to the rest of my aftermark system!

Can i just say thanks to the ****** who installed this in the first place and the stupid garage that i purchased it from because quite frankly when you spend as much as i did on a car you don't expect to have to pay out 000's on fixing the f'ing thing!!!!!

All my plans for improving the car have now gone as i just have to get the car running ok.

Excuse my mood but i really have had a bad day, including my EML coming on AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the bright side i did ask santa to pre order me a GT-86

Dude. Ditch the Ppe and get a stock one from a breaker. There is one on eBay at the moment.

Two people on here have the ppe with no problems. Is yours the right model or is it even fitted properly??

According to the guys at the garages and my welder we all seem to think that it is fitted correctly but obviously because it's oversized & it's too big.

Spoke to the guy you told me about in a previous post and he is having the exact same problem. However he has got he's whole engine out at the mo because his gearbox is broken!

He may be able to modify it so he can change gears if the cable is moved!

It may also be the case that i have the wrong one but there were 2 from PPE for our engines and one is "supercharged" which i believe is slightly larger. Either way i can't get around it. I would like to but i do not have the knowledge and am taken advice from everyone who i can.

I know i have moaned about the price and this may seem stupid but i would not buy a 2nd hand anything (except a car as i'm not that well off). I do like to spend on my cars but not fixing problems that shouldn't be there. I know that is what modding causes but i didn't do this mod and if i did i wouldn't be moaning (well not as much!).

I may however soon have a spare PPE header lying about in my garage.

I have yet to speak to anyone on hear who has the PPE header and it hasn't caused a problem so if there is any1 on here... :help:

Maybe get intouch with monkey wrench racing as they supply them. They might have some info on how to stop this.

Wonder If bamber is still in touch with the lad he bought his off?

there has got to be a way around it, maybe take the oe bracket to a metal fabricators and ask them to copy it but angle it backwards a bit or have you tried something like this?

flame guard

eml light will always come on unless you get it mapped out £££'s. get a mil eliminator ( basically a resistor) or an o2 sensor extension to bring the probe away from the exhaust gases but only a remap is a permanent fix

I have tried to change the bracket (welder on site fabbed me 1) however the cables would only move v.slightly and made gear change very very notchy and stiff! I have also tried wrapping it in a similar material to link above however it has worn through, it lasts a bit longer when i do v.short journeys and don't rag. But then whats the point!

As 4 EML light i'm wondering if it has anything to do with the exhaust due to the traction and stability light are on also.

1st time it happened i was told abs or similar was dirty!

Also another reason 4 me to go back 2 standard is the manifold/header fitted along with exhaust (which has a hi-flo cat) is giving out emissions that would never ever pass MOT, unfortunately i do not personally know a MOT tester ;)

I have looked into these headers and you can buy an extra which is like an air injector to meet stupid emission laws which mine does not have so therefore i will not get a new MOT!

Dunno but he said he is having the same problem! I have spoke directly to PPE and they said they have encounted this problem once and they moved the gear change cables but i can't, my welder and me can't and 2 garages can't! I'm not saying this can't be done but i haven't managed 2 move them and be able to drive the car.

If i fully heat wrapped the exhaust again and wrapped cable again i could make it last another few months but then my MOT will be due and c previous post about that! :(

Temp fixes can be done, and i have fitted a temp wrapping of the cables. in theory this could be changed (every 2-3 days at the mo) and replaced. But this is far from ideal. Mr P recommended a company and talking to the i've ordered some hopefully longer lasting shield but again it is not a fix.

At the moment i can't drive it how i want 2 (fast and for longer than 30 mins).

Also there is the issue of passing an MOT, i'm tempted to take it to the same dodgy/****ty garage that put it through for the garage i bought it off because there is no way it could pass emmisions!

The main problem i have is how much i love the car because every1 is telling me to get rid but i just don't want 2.

I mean there is no other car for the money (i think) that has the exclusivity of a Compressor (and speed).

The ONLY car i may be tempted by is an rx8 pz.

I've raced two different 225 rx8's at Santa pod and I was a good 0.3 to 0.6 seconds quicker on every run. So it's slower than ur comp.

Good on the twistiest tho.

This problem u have is a pain on the ***** but it's not one that's going to affect the long the life of car.

Can u not take it to an exhaust specialist somewhere??

All facelifts have the manifold with air injection if ur still looking for a breaking one. Or sell urs on eBay and buy the TRD one from fensport

Can't get the TRD one anymore (another product they have discontinued) from Fensport as i did want it.

I have sourced a place in America that can do me the TRD manifold though it is advertised for the Celica it shares the same part number as the corolla 1. Again the problem i have is the cost which was something like £1k not inc shipping and possible custom charges!

I have taken it to exhaust specialist ppl and they said they could refab the problem pipe, but it would reduce its efficiency (all be it only slightly) and cost the same as it is costing me for the manifold and all the bits from Toyota. The only issue with doing this is then the MOT problem.

As you say once it's sorted there should be no more issues and i'll have a slightly slower but realiable comp :)
