Cold Start Problem D4D 2.0 2007

Hi there

I have an otherwise faultless 2007 57 plate d4d 2.0 TR.

It has 85k and full history.

From cold overnight it takes three or four attempts to start. I need to start with foot on the accelerator. once started it will settle into diesel idle and be faultless.

Any ideas?

Hot starts are fine, everything else is fine.

Hi

I had a similar problem a few years ago and had new injectors. They also changed the pulsing rate on them or something and has been fine since.

Hope this helps

Glow plugs and Battery is what I'd look at 1st. Then the fuel and air filter. But it could also be the coolant temp sensor that has been mentioned. I take it that the car has been used on a regular basis and not got summer derv left in the tank as the winter derv is at the fuel stations with the anti-wax additives.

in case of foot apply then change fuel filter.

the engine is to be wel started without any feets.

Wow. Thanks for the replies.

The problem has mysteriously sorted itself out!

Temp sensor was always fine i think as it idles above 1k and then drops when its warmed up.

I alway put Shell or BP fuel in it and am doing 700-800 miles a week so it always has fresh decent fuel.

The car has been serviced well and filters changed, it also drives great with good mpg so cant see how it could be the fuel filter?

I will see how it goes over the colder days to come.

yes the worse food the more starting issues.

check with pour point of the diesel you have filled in last time -- and change the filling station to use winter quality diesel.

cheers + good motoring
