A Help Request To All Lc Owners!

Hello!

I am the owner of a D4D'54 plate LC5 which i love and thoroughly enjoy!

However, 2 weeks ago the car (automatic) stalled twice in less than 200M...

Upon recovery to my T dealer i was informed that two of my injectors were so far out of tolerance that they were creating the ECU error report of a fuel leak!

As the car is specified with the original "step 1 injectors", not only do i have to replace the 2 faulty ones, but also all four pipes, plus the other 2 injectors, as the original ones are no longer available, as they were deemed to be sub-standard.

After having the copper seals replaced after complaining that the car was smoking and running rough, i then was blessed with the "death rattle" on cold start, i think i am not the only one who has experienced this!

TGB & TFS (to date) have not offered to do much, which i am still pursuing and will report on, as matters develop...

I spoke to VOSA (vehicle safety authority in the UK) about the "TBG customer satisfaction campaign" for the copper seats.

VOSA say that they are "unaware of any engine failures that the seals have led to or any other issues..."

Therefore a cry for help!

If there are other fellow LC owners that have suffered similar or even worse failures than my own, i would appreciate them getting in touch so we can present this as a potential safety concern, officially!

Without the weight of other owners TGB will do nothing, either for you or me and VOSA will be unable to apply any pressure to TGB to review their current recall status.

I have read of several catastrophic engine failures which are associated with these seats failing and causing consequential damage eventually culminating in engine replacement.

I am slightly more fortunate (lucky?) in that my engine is currently intact, but with dead injectors, but there must be others like me who will suffer from the lack of recognition that Toyota are making of these manufacturing faults, who will ultimately have to either replace their injectors (well over £2K) or worse their entire engine!

So please would you make yourselves known to me, or, if you know who has had an issue, please ask them to contact me either on this forum, or on my private email address

Many thanks in advance

John

We've been warning owners to change to the aluminium seals (and check the oil strainer is clear) for at least two years over at the land cruiser owners club (www.tlocuk.co.uk).

Toyota effectively extended the warranty on these engines to 5 years/100,000 miles. So paid for new engines if they failed. Yours is more than a bit older than that! So you're into the realms of extended goodwill. Do you have any bargaining chips - Does your car have a full toyota service history? what's the mileage?

If it had been almost any other car maker, the warranty would not have been extended the way Toyota have done. I know lots of VW owners who had to pay for their new injectors at much lower mileages than yours.

Your other alternative is to go to a decent diesel specialist rather than toyota. The injectors are made by Denso if that helps.

No we don't - the injectors are now a free recall (and refund if the work had already been done) thanks to pressure from VOSA and VW forums......but perhaps because the engine management system shut down the engine on injector failure and the results could have been catasrophic that we got some action from VW
