@NRG, interesting topic :)

But you've done a ECU change like you wrote, and that gained you 110hp?

No SC or turbo?

my 110PS is with a Supercharger.

I don't think you can get more than 230PS on a NA car.

thnx mate!

So the mods Luke has done on his cts will gain how much you think?

I think the cams will make more difference mid range, top end will not make much difference.

I expect 10-15PS Max. If you have the electronics then a bit more but on the stock ECU you aren't adding any more fuel or advancing ignition to take advantage of it.

No just the cams would need doing.

Its a hard job replacing the cams, you need to know how to set the timing 2zzge perfectly.

With the stock ECU you probably wont gain much, if anything really. The gains are made throughout the power band whilst maintaining peak power at the top end

Take a look at this graph, these cams are similar

Green is Horsepower, Blue is Torque. Both are measured at the wheels

Dotted line = stock

Solid line = stage 2

Massive improvement from 4000rpm onwards, look at the 20bhp increase at 6000rpm.

The hole in the torque band between 5-6k rpm is very poor, but could be helped by better mapping :)

Need a new ECU for that though :(

Have you looked into a Dastek UniChip Q ? They're a lot cheaper than many standalone ECU's & work well as piggybacks :)

Some people are in the process of doing this but its not all that simple as you need to fool the stock ECU into thinking its working as normal, otherwise it starts compensating and eventually negates any gains made

A piggyback ecu would be an excellent modification though

The reason I suggested it is because I had it done to my 1.8 Nissan Almera - it was the only supercharged Almera in the UK, so nobody had converted it from n/a before. As such it needed specialist fuelling & upgraded injectors to keep up with the extra air supply. After some trial & error, I chose the Dastek for fuel mapping & 330cc injectors. It worked well (not 100% perfect, but close) & kept the engine safe whether commuting or flat out on the dragstrip. Obviously it had to run on superunleaded to give more protection against detonation.

That torque curve in both cammed and stock form is SHOCKING. Ive never seen it so poorly linar before, surely toyota realised this when they were developing the 2zz engine!

That should perfectly increase till its peak point and drop away. Has anyone got a graph of a 2zz with a stand alone ecu?

Solid = Mapped

Dotted = Stock

Technically that dip should be correct because the engine has two sets of cam lobes and each will peak and drop off at different RPM. It looks almost like it needs a third set to fill the gap

Stage 2 cams + Rotrex S/C Install - You can't beat a bit of blow :lol:

Does the Lotus elise with the 2zzge engine use the same ecu as the corolla?

Lotus use their own ECU and bring Lift in slightly earlier....
