Hi uph,

I had simmilar problems but with hot starts only.

I am currently having the same problem, only with hot starts. Can anyone tell me why the car starts perfect when its cold but struggles to start when hot?

The starter motor sounds normal and is turning the engine over, but the car splutters and then cuts out but normally starts on the 3rd try.

edit. Mine is a 2002 1.8 vvti petrol engine with 170,000 miles on it, if that makes any difference :ermm:

I had the same problem, toyota garage were next to usless, took it to a garage that

specialise in toyota, took a while but turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor

it was giving a reading on the compoter, but was the wrong reading, kept telling the computer it was cold when in fact it was hot, so would not start from hot

Hope this helps
