Crankshaft Sensor 1999 Corolla

Anybody know if the crankshaft sensor can checked without stripping the engine casing I have an intermittant starting problem .the sensor is suspected but MrT says it is a 2hr job to get at it to check if it is faulty

And it is not faulty that is a 2 hr labour charge for nothing any ideas

Is this on a Corolla, or the Auris in your profile?

Could well be different, can maybe help if it is for a Corolla.

EDIT - It's late and I'm very tired, so kind of missed the fact that you put '99 Corolla up there. Oops!

Anyway.

Remove drivebelt

Remove altenator by undoing the retaining bolts

The sensor is located adjacent to the crankshaft pulley at the front of the engine. Trace the wiring back from the sensor and disconnect the wiring plug

Connect an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals and measure the resistance of the sensor

Normal resistance hot is 2065 to 3225 ohm

Normal resistance cold is 1630 to 2740 ohm

Can see why the job would take a while, but I don't think it's worth 2 hours at dealer rates, kerr-ching!
