hi i could use a little help here my 2005 2.0 previa d4d with 130k on clock has developed a knocking noise ive put a mechanics stethascope on the engine and it seems to be high up in the engine cyl head area towards cambelt end,it knocks when reved up and as the engine speed drops also the tickover seams higher than norm at approx 1000 rpm i suspect injector knock and im having them tested at present ,ive checked the clearances on the cam and valves they seem ok ive lifted the camshaft bearing caps they seam ok with no signs of wear, someone has suggested the engine speed sensor giving out false info to the injectors ,but im not sure, apart from the noise the car runs fine with plenty of go and no visible signs of smoke and no engine warning lights on dash ,if its a sensor or injector would it show as a fault code ,just for the record it sounds like the old transit 2.5 direct injection engine when retarded too far, next step is cams out and checking valve springs unless theres any good ideas out there thanks for your time regards, mark.

sussed out the problem , engine is goosed did an autopsy on engine when out no 1 and no 2 cylinders scored and pistons scored , i the wondered why it looked like lack of oil , so i took off sump and the strainer on the end of the pick up pipe was blocked with black hard crystals [a bit bigger than sugar grains ] this had obiously reduced the oil flow to cylinders causing contact in the bores ,any ideas as to what causes them, the rest of the engine internally is spotless and at some point has had the bores glazebusted also i wondered if its had the engine flushed with flushing oil leaving all the crud in the sump if so let this be a warning to all

hi MARK

i suggest 130k is due for all injectors calibrating on the fuel stand.

you have an ordinary over fueling effect giving you this knocking noise.

hi cheers for that it turned out to be a lot worse number 1 and 2 cyls goosed caused by oil starvation the pickup pipe in the sump was blocked by deposits probably due to leaking injector seal ive since found out that the pickups changed for the worse by toyota the new type block easily i will try and post photos of the new type and the old type when i get time and suss out how it should cause some interest if not concern to all 2.0 d4d users
