Petrol Or Diesel Auto

OK,this might sound like a daft question but is a new petrol Avensis auto any more economical than the diesel,i've heard people say the diesel is not that great on fuel and the new petrol auto box is really good

but there are other things to take into consideration such as price of road tax,servicing and the inhernt problems you seem to get with high mileage diesels(i drive a cab) a petrol is probably a bit cheaper to buy

i like my Avensis and even though i had the dreaded head gaskit failure at 68k i'd still buy another

i'd like opinions on running petrol models please if you'd be so kind
