Exhaust Hitting Towbar Mounting Plate - 2007 1.8 Tourer

Read this site - especially about Avensis history and engine issues - and bought a 2007 1.8 petrol estate with 40k on the clock as it seemed a reasonable bet. So thanks for the information to date!

Had a towbar fitted by "Topfit" towbars (mobile fitters) on friday and after they left I drove the car - a few miles down the road a loud knocking started up which it transpires is the back of the rear box of the exhaust at the top hitting the new mounting plate for the towbar. Got the fitting firm back today and they profess astonishment as they say they have fitted lots of new towbars to avensis(s) (avensi?) and "never had this problem guv". They say that the towbar is correctly fitted, they can't move the plate and they can't permanently move the exhaust.

Anyone ever encountered a similar problem? Can't believe that it's unique to me (but with my luck may be it will be). The tow bar fitters can't return until Thursday (!) but I've made it clear they need to sort it - paid with visa debit so my bank tell me that while I can't cancel the payment I can raise a dispute and probably get my money back. I'd prefer to have a non rattling car with a tow bar!

thats what happens when you dont buy oe.....i get this sort of thing at my work to which the customer gets told to go back to the fitting firm
