Hi all.

Does anybody have any idea where the prius is manufactured.

It's a little more complicated than that. Apparantly there are three factories in Japan that make the Prius and one of them has a bad reputation for quality - or lack thereof.

So is there a way of finding out which factory made your car? The American chassis numbers indicate the factory but they appear different to ours.

Apparently the Prius is manufacturered in 3 countries.

Chachoengsago, Thailand

Tsutsumi, Japan

Changchun, Jilin, China.

But all the UK ones are made in Japan. Thailand and China make for the local market only (AFAIK).

Gen 2 was built at Tsutsumi (Toyota City) and Kariya (Fujimatsu) in Japan, and Changchun, Jilin, China (Chinese domestic market only).

Gen 3 is built at Tsutsumi plant in Japan and Chachoengsao plant(s) in Thailand.

I can confirm the Thai plant, since I have been in the area several times, and seen the transports leaving there fully packed with Prius, but I'm not sure if it's for local only or also for export, but with peaking at the cars while driving past, they all seem to be right hand drive, and not every car on the street here are Prius, so I assume that they also export to Europe.
