WOW ... that is really neat Bob ... naaaice and naaaice indeed ... and a nice Website ... lots of different "caravans"... even bigger ones ...

Thanks for your update ...

Strange thing is ... that behind a motorcycle it is allowed to pull anything on a towbar ... without any form of certification ...

Compared with the impossibility to do this behind an iQ ....

Frustrating ....

So I have to upgrade my BMW C-200 motorcycle... oh yeah... it's the 176.5 CC engine ... CVT ... 120 km/hr ...

And, not to forget, I (we) do have a big caravan ... the one you can see behind my red car... but we tow it behind the wife's T. Corolla Verso... :driving:

You're welcome Peter. You know what? I hate caravans, and yet, the idea of having one that you tow around off road, in the wilderness/rough stuff makes me want to just go out and buy a decent 4x4 and try it out. What's stopping me? I haven't won the lottery yet.

However, I used to go 'desert bashing' as we called it, out in Saudi Arabia. That was good fun. I had a Chevy Blazer then, and it was great for trekking across the desert. Mostly on the hard stuff, not too many sand dunes. We avoided those if we could, and had a rule about them. Don't go racing over them until you know what's over the other side. One guy forgot this and destroyed his Wrangler Jeep after falling off the other end of a dune, 20 feet down onto a harder surface. He got a few broken bones, but his pride was severely damaged.

I'll put up some photo's later.

Yes Bob,

I have seen one of those kind of accidents... OMG... They run up the hill... and then... ........... long flight and bamm on the nose... Engine in front...

They are like sand waves... one side slope and over the top there is a long way down...

A Chevy Blazer is a "nice" car ... more of a monster.. There's one driving in this neighborhood, an old one, but what a sound and power....

Ans yes ... doing very interesting by driving on an impossible road and then also with a caravan thing .... no ... that's over the top.... :-)

Bob you will need to win the lottery if you wanted to buy one of these.

Holy Moley! I would much rather have one of those. Ideal for trecking around Shropshire's outback. They have really packed that one out with great kit haven't they? I saw these on TV a few years back and can see they have evolved. Still, my wife hates camping or anything remotely connected to it. Still, I wouldn't mind. No sense of adventure some people. Actually, she doesn't like the bugs, but then, neither do I.

Yep, keep the engines cool after quite a trek across the desert. We all did it, just in this pic the company Landcruiser and my Blazer. One guy that came with us a few times had a fan set up over the top of his engine, fixed temporarily to the inside of the bonnet for just such a purpose. Ingenious.

^_^ This is where we were.

WOW .... impressive ...

Here ... in Holland we have only very very flat land .... some hills, where the roads cross one and other.... we call them "viaducts" ... but they do not drive offroad there ... as there is allready a road...

In the south east we had some hills ... but due to coal-mining ... they are all gone....

Even our main airport "Schiphol-Airport" is very flat ... it's an even negative hill... as it is 3,35 meter below NAP .

NAP is about the same as sea-level: explanation here... http://nl.wikipedia....Amsterdams_Peil

We also do not go offroad there ... one could easily get hit by a plane as there are "437.082" plane movements a year... more about Schiphol here: http://nl.wikipedia....thaven_Schiphol

On some islands we can go outdoor offroading... but these places have intense military movements... and one could get hurt by a mortar-shell.

Beaches then: they have good sand-dunes... but there are a lot (I mean a lot) of sunbathing girls / women and females ... so this is a NONO...

Sorry...

And by the way... Holland is just too small... could not turn your Bronco... no way dude...

Interesting about the NAP Peter. I sometimes wondered how they managed to decide on a height for the dikes. A shame there is nowhere to go 4x4 off-roading. I used to love it. Yes, Schiphol Airport, nice. My wife and I transited through there on our honeymoon to British Columbia in 1999. Going outbound we managed to wangle/finaggle ourselves into Buisiness class. They had put us at different ends of the aircraft, and what made it worse was that I had specifically asked for seating together -being a seasoned flyer I knew the mistakes that can be made- so they upgraded us free. On top of that, we got -because now they knew we were on our honeymoon- a nice bottle of Champagne, some nice pottery and a box of chocolates. Very kind people on KLM flights.

Of course, coming back, it was KLM cattle class, and we were exhausted. We had a while to wait for our plane to Manchester but couldn't find anywhere to sit. All taken up by kids and so on. But, easy to find your way around and generally a nice airport, unlike Heathrow. I have been through there 3 times all told. Vlissengen port, 3 times (6 both ways obviously) on my way to and from Wildenrath on escort duty. The ferry cabins were crap mind you.

Hai Bob,

Could be that it really is possible to go offroad... My story was more of a fun story... Holland being sooo small and being soooo liberal... grinnn...

I know there is a guy that does these offroad things... I will look into it.

My father flew a lot around the world and was a real fan of Garuda Airlines... could be that Varig was even better ..

About KLM he said... if they ask you "would you like something to eat" ... and you would replay with "what choice is there?" ... they would answer "Yes or No" .:-) ..

Here we have a nice site: http://www.terreinrijden.nl/ "driving in terrain" ... They terrains are hard to find in Holland and there are less and less of places to go.

The link you put in there Peter, very good. I noticed that a lot of the vehicles are either Land Rover or Toyota, with the odd Mercedes and unknown in there -plus a Suzuki. I appreciate what you're saying about Holland not being too large, but then again, there's a whole lot of places to go in Europe from there.

I have heard of Garuda -used to see them at the airport in Jeddah, but know little about Varig. One of my work 'colleagues' (I hate that term, smacks of Political Madness gone Correct) from Jeddah who lives in Indonesia, not too far from Jakarta. His wife is from there, and I can say she was a good cook. Made some great steak pies -I missed that sort of thing over there.

Back to the 4x4 driving. It's not cheap, but if I could, I would love to modify a short wheelbase Toyota Landcruiser for some serious mud-plugging. Don't know if you have heard about Top Gear, with Clarkson, May and Hammond? Well, back in 2002 I won a competition to win -it was a two part thing- a Mitsubishi Animal Cab (the pick-up). It's in the Top Gear magazine from April 2002, Issue 103, between pages 106 and 107 as an advertisement feature. They paid £750, 'per person.' for the day, for 32 people, only 31 turned up as the other got stuck in traffic from Yorkshire. The event took place at Drive and Survive Off-Road Centre at Enstone in the Cotswold countryside. We also got a free Animal (as in the link with Animal Cab) watch worth £60 to £80 at the time. I am the red faced git in the dark blue coat next to the letter M -it was very cold and wet- behind the Mitsubishi sign on the left of the guy with the red coat. I'm droning on here, sorry. Images 1,2,3 are my pics, the others from the magazine.
